| | "You both preceed me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing upon my head." Psalm 139:5
Has there ever been a time when you felt 'hemmed in'? Maybe you were on an elevator with a ton of people. Maybe you were scared and you sought the protection of someone's arms to make you feel safe. I remember a time when I felt this way. There is a woman at my church in Arkansas named Mrs. Diane. Mrs. Diane has known me since the 4th grade. She's one of those people who always makes you feel loved and important. She has always, always called me 'baby girl.' It is her heart's desire for Christian women to know that they are adored daughters of God.
Last year while I was home for Christmas, Mrs. Diane invited me over to her house to spend the night. We are both what you might call 'talkers', so I was really looking forward to getting to spend some extra time with her. I met her and her husband at a Mexican restaurant for dinner. We ate and visited and then decided to head to the house. I had never been to Mrs. Diane's house before, so she told me to follow her once we got on the interstate. Her husband, who was in his pickup truck, also joined in our caravan. Once we got on the interstate, I got behind Mrs. Diane. Her husband, instead of following behind her or going on ahead of us, pulled in behind me. They were making sure I didn't get lost, and it made me feel very safe and taken care of.
I think this must be how God wants us to always feel, if we are children of His. Like everywhere we're going, He's already there; and everywhere we've been, He was there too. He follows closely in front of and behind us, keeping us from tripping up and trying to run ahead of Him, but also making sure we don't dwell too much on what is behind us. If you are a child of His, take comfort in knowing that He is going everywhere you're going, and He's been everywhere you've been.
